Abstract
Le Canada est une nation commerçante qui produit des quantités importantes d’extrants liées aux ressources. Ainsi, le comportement des prix des ressources qui revêtent de l’importance pour le Canada est pertinent, afin de comprendre les progrès de la croissance des revenus réels et la prospérité du pays et des provinces. Les brusques variations de la demande et de l’offre ou les changements à la politique monétaire sur les marchés internationaux peuvent avoir une énorme influence sur le prix des ressources. Les fluctuations sont un facteur important de transmission des bouleversements externes au sein de l’économie nationale. Le présent document comporte des estimations historiques de l’indice des prix des produits de base de la Banque du Canada (IPPB) et les couple à des estimations modernes. Au moyen d’un ensemble de sources de données historiques, il évalue les poids et les prix d’une manière suffisamment cohérente pour permettre l’établissement d’estimations à long terme qui pourraient être couplées à l’IPPB de Fisher moderne.
