Abstract
Le présent article porte sur le rapport texte-image et propose que le maillage entre le textuel et le visuel multiplie les possibilités sémantiques. L’étude s’amorce par un bref retour sur les premiers modèles d’analyse de sémiologie visuelle fondés sur cette relation intime entre le verbal et le visuel, spécifiquement ceux de Roland Barthes et de Louis Marin. S’ensuit une série d’analyses inspirées des propositions théoriques du Groupe μ visant à démontrer que les différentes formes que peut prendre un texte à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur d’une image contribuent à cette amplitude connotative. Pour exemplifier nos propos, nous prenons à témoin l’emblème In Senatum boni principis d’André Alciat et sa traduction par l’écrivain-poète du xvie siècle Simon Bouquet, de même que la planche no 43 du recueil d’estampes satiriques Los Caprichos de Francisco Goya intitulée El sueno de la razon produce monstruos et, enfin, la citation qu’en propose l’artiste contemporain Yinka Shonibare dans sa série photographique Sleep/Dream of the Reason. Le but ambitionné est somme toute de mettre en lumière le fait que le sens initial d’un texte ou d’une image reproduit(e) n’est pas dénaturé mais réajusté, voire réinterprété selon son nouveau contexte d’émergence.
