El trabajo plantea la creacion de un modelo que permita introducir una sistematica en el analisis de la Funcion de la Calidad en empresas del entorno industrial del sector de automocion y se basa en el concepto de integracion en torno a los procesos transversales a la organizacion. El analisis comienza con unas consideraciones previas sobre el propio concepto de integracion y lo relaciona con los conceptos de complejidad y los denominados Productos y Sistemas Complejos (PSC). Tras una breve referencia historica a los conceptos subyacentes al actual marco de la calidad, se pasa a evaluar el panorama de los modelos de gestion, modelos normativos, herramientas y modelos para la excelencia, intentando discernir su capacidad para integrar los sistemas de la empresa. A continuacion se analiza la evolucion reciente del sector de automocion y su comportamiento ante ciertas tendencias socio-economicas y en especial los fenomenos de la Globalizacion, la estructura de Empresas en Red y el surgimiento de las denominadas Empresas Virtuales. En un segundo bloque conceptual se parte de la concepcion de la empresa como un sistema y se analizan distintos enfoques para su modelizado. Para ello se comienza por evaluar el proposito del Modelizado de Empresas, en sus dos principales vertientes, la Ingenieria de Empresas y la Integracion de Empresas, estableciendose las lineas generales de lo que se denominan Modelos Genericos de Empresa, desarrollados bajo una arquitectura y metodologia especifica denominada GERAM (Generic Enterprise Reference Architecture). Ligado a dichos modelos se desarrolla el concepto de Ontologia y se analizan en detalle sus componentes, que serviran de base conceptual para el desarrollo del modelo. Posteriormente se evaluan distintas ontologias existentes y se analiza su adecuacion al proposito del modelo que se pretende definir. De entre ellas se dedicara especial atencion a la ontologia de la Universidad de Toronto
