Abstract
Les quelques mentions de l’exercice de la déclamation dans le corpus frontonien révèlent une pratique de la déclamation qui est à la fois en accord avec une certaine tradition latine et complémentaire de la réflexion de Fronton sur les exercices scolaires. Fronton privilégie un ancrage historique et institutionnel des sujets de déclamation. Les deux sujets que nous avons font allusion à une famille précise, les Acilii Glabriones ; on peut donc en déduire que Fronton utilise l’exercice de la déclamation pour traiter d’enjeux politiques contemporains. De plus, il semble que le professeur reprend des idées qu’il développe ailleurs, notamment le rôle respectif du droit humain et du droit naturel. Fronton ne semble pas entrevoir la déclamation dans la même perspective que les jeux littéraires, comme l’éloge paradoxal ou les badinages amoureux.
