Abstract
This research presentation maps the techniques and approaches of five SSHRC-funded senior Canadian academics (Associate or Full professors) with specialties in drama and theatre education; to learn which drama and theatre strategies are most suited for preparing in-service teachers to address critical societal issues in their own classes using drama and theatre. Mapping the drama and theatre approaches that these individuals have utilized in their research to investigate how drama can be used to explore topics such as bystander roles in bullying (Belliveau, 2008) and the experiences of incarcerated youth (Conrad, 2013) will complement and expand the limited documentation of practices, techniques, training and experiences of Canadian drama-in education instructors in academic settings.
