Abstract
The history of the relationships among gender, politics, and the state are similar, although not identical, in the United States and Canada. This essay discusses women's enfranchisement, the three stages of the women's movement for political equality, women's policy foci and successes, and levels of political representation in the context of the governmental structures of the two nations.
