Abstract
The purpose of this database is to provide a complete, digital, internally consistent, and georeferenced collection of spatial data that will assist interested parties in mineral exploration, environmental studies, land use planning, and other investigations requiring up-to-date earth sciences information. The geoscientific data included, and the bedrock geological interpretations presented, are the result of a third and final summer of field work (July and August 2002) of a three-year, integrated geoscientific project in the central portion of Baffin Island which is supported by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Polar Continental Shelf Project (Earth Sciences Sector, Natural Resources Canada) in partnership with the Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office (Iqaluit, Nunavut). Subsequent databases and geoscientific interpretations released by the Central Baffin Project will feature results derived from continued bedrock compilation and synthesis activities, as well as publications stemming from surficial mapping, 3D structural modelling, teleseismic, magnetotelluric and gamma-ray surveys, geochronological and geochemical sampling, and 9 BSc, 5 MSc, and 2 PhD theses being completed in the greater project area.
