Abstract
This article makes oneself familiar with the information resources of the documents of judicial institutions in Katherinoslave province of the last quarter of the XVIII century; these documents have broaden our true notions of the private libraries in this territory. The analysis of a list of books from a register of the property inherited by children of S. Maximov, (a captain of artillery). The author comes to a conclusion that a register mentioned above shows a change of readers tastes in this period as well as the total imperial tendencies in selection of this library assortment.
