Cet article plaide pour un usage de la méthodologie de la théorisation enracinée (MTE) en tant que méthodologie pertinente pour comprendre les logiques managériales du secteur informel en Afrique. D’abord, la nature inductive de la MTE est idéale pour appréhender un terrain dont les dimensions économiques, sociales et culturelles sont enchevêtrées et déteignent sur la relation entre les acteurs et la gestion de leurs activités. Ensuite, la nature substantive et l’interactionnisme symbolique dans la MTE permettent de comprendre les réalités managériales construites par les acteurs à travers les significations qu’ils donnent à leur vécu. Enfin, l’usage de la MTE dans un domaine encore largement inexploré sied au secteur informel où du travail reste à faire pour faire émerger et conceptualiser des théories appropriées en management. Cependant, le chercheur doit dépasser des limites académiques et personnelles qui constituent des défis à relever. Il doit aussi savoir adapter la MTE si nécessaire.
