Abstract
The chapter looks into the challenges that the use of CSR clauses pose to classical contract law. Classical doctrines on the formation of contracts and interpretation may pose barriers to the enforcement of such clauses. To the extent that such clauses are considered part of the contract, there may also be a need to protect the suppler against unfair terms vis-à-vis the chain leader. Classical contract law is only of limited avail in this regard. The chapter offers inspiration for the development of contract law in the light of the relational contract law theories and network theories.
