Geological significance of gravity anomalies in the area of McArthur River uranium deposit, Athabasca Basin, Saskatchewan

Abstract
A gravity model is presented for a 27.2 km long, high-resolution gravity profile trending north-northwest across the mineralized P2 trend of the McArthur River uranium deposit. The model was derived in combination with magnetic modelling, and constrained by seismic data and interpretations, drillhole logs, and rock-property data. The crystalline basement is modelled as a series of units of pelitic, psammitic, and granitoid gneiss, separated generally by south-dipping, commonly steep contacts. The model supports an interpretation of the seismically defined south-dipping P2 fault as a thrust with steep splay faults in the hanging wall. It suggests also steep upthrusting within the Mudjatik Domain, and that the Mudjatik-Wollaston domain boundary is locally near vertical and possibly associated with flower structures. The McArthur River deposit is associated with a 0.4 mGal amplitude gravity high attributed to silicification accompanying mineralization. Several prospective silicification zones are modelled, most of which are rooted on metasedimentary units.
