Maints historiens déploraient depuis longtemps que le manuscrit de LysianeGagnon sur l'histoire du mouvement étudiant québécois soit, trente-cinq ans après sa rédaction, toujours inédit.Écrit en I97I pour servir de base documentaire au film d'Alain Dostie, (C'est votre plus beau temps, I973), il était resté depuis ce temps dans les cartons de l'Office national du film.Avec la généreuse permission de l'auteure et de l'ONE le Bulletin d'histoire politique a décidé de publier ce texte, qui récapitule les étapes de la radicalisation progressive du mouvement étudiant. * * *Jusqu'au début des années 1960, les étudiants n'étaient pas considérés comme une « classe sociale», ni comme un groupe susceptible de jouer un rôle dans la société.Leurs activités se limitaient au domaine des sports, les joutes interuniversitaires canalisant parfois certaines aspirations nationalistes (exemple, les «finales» de hockey entre McGill et Montréal), ainsi qu'au domaine des loisirs, de la littérature, du théâtre et des arts.Les associations étudiantes, qui existaient notamment à Laval et à l'Université de Montréal, avaient essentiellement pour but d'organiser certaines activités para-académiques (le carnaval annuel par exemple), et aussi de servir de tremplin à des étudiants qui songeaient à s'orienter en politique, le nombre de dirigeants politiques qui se sont fait connaître à l'AGEL ou à l'AGEUM en témoigne.En ce sens, les associations d'étudiants universitaires constituaient de véritables « écoles de politique», politique étant ici entendu dans un sens de politique électorale traditionnelle.(On verra d'ailleurs que, par la Association québécoise d'histoire politique
