L’émergence des plateformes numériques change fondamentalement la nature du travail, les façons de fonctionner des entreprises et l’organisation de l’activité productive, donnant naissance à ce qu’on appelle l’« économie collaborative ». Nous assistons, depuis quelques années, à l’émergence de grandes plateformes telles Uber, Airbnb ou Foodora, qui sont les plus connues; mais d’autres plateformes de service telles qu’Adèle sur demande émergent et sont présentes sur le territoire québécois. Que sait-on quant au nombre de ces plateformes et de leurs collaborateurs? Est-ce que l’ensemble de ces plateformes de services engendre les mêmes formes de travail? Les effets bénéfiques ou néfastes de ce type de travail sont-ils partagés par l’ensemble des travailleurs oeuvrant au sein d’une même plateforme? Partant de ces interrogations, le présent article propose une description réflexive et problématique des enjeux relatifs au travail dans le contexte de l’émergence de ce qu’on appelle l’« économie collaborative ». Dans un premier temps, nous examinons l’objet de recherche que sont les plateformes numériques en tant que nouvel acteur de l’économie contemporaine. Dans un deuxième temps, nous exposons les difficultés d’estimation et les limites d’analyse des nouvelles formes de travail effectuées par l’intermédiaire des plateformes. Dans un troisième temps, en tenant compte de l’état des études sur ce sujet, nous proposons des pistes de réflexion pour souligner la nécessité d’un programme de recherche interdisciplinaire sur ce phénomène en émergence.
