Ce mémoire se penche sur la place qu’occupe le théâtre de création en région et il prend appui sur l’étude d’un cas spécifique : la compagnie sherbrookoise les Turcs Gobeurs d’Opium. À une première partie de nature historique et sociale qui vise à restituer le paysage du théâtre de création en région au Québec, notamment ses moyens (financiers, techniques, matériels) et les enjeux liés à sa position géographique hors des grands centres, succède une seconde partie qui s’interroge de manière plus élaborée sur la compagnie sherbrookoise à l’étude. Il s’agit de comprendre ses conditions de création, mais aussi d’analyser ses œuvres, par un travail de poétique, pour en dégager la valeur artistique. Par la perspective de l’analyse du discours et à la lumière des théories de Dominique Maingueneau, un travail à même les textes des Turcs Gobeurs d’Opium cherchera enfin à éclairer de quelle façon les pièces rejouent la marginalité de la compagnie.
