Abstract
À travers l’analyse de trois romans appartenant à la première période de l’oeuvre du romancier, cet article traite d’un aspect central chez Jules Verne : la construction d’une ligne droite. Comme le notait Roland Barthes, Les voyages extraordinaires sont construits sur un désir d’habitation : il faut habiter la structure, la moduler, la faire sienne. La ligne droite constitue la structure de prédilection des personnages verniens. C’est par elle que naîtra l’aventure et que la modernité prendra toute son expansion. Dans cet article, nous tenterons ainsi de suivre la ligne droite jusque dans ses extrêmes limites, pour voir les autres structures qu’elle permet d’imaginer et les autres mondes qu’elle permet d’explorer.
