Abstract
When Ontario adopted a two-year pre-service program of initial teacher training the Schulich School of Education, Nipissing University, added a mathematics course requirement for all senior division teacher candidates. The development of this course provides a model for course development. The development began with a literature review that informed the course but also informed a book proposal. The parallel course and academic developments informed each other at several key points. The course was developed on three notions derived from the literature and a vision of teacher candidate needs. The book brought in external academic voices that helped realize challenges the teacher candidates would need guidance to address.
