Abstract
La tesis del “derrame” (spillover) plantea que niveles crecientes de asociacion economica podran propiciar procesos de integracion en las esferas social y politica. Este argumento ha sido retomado por algunos autores, que lo han aplicado al area de la politica exterior de los paises integrantes del tlcan . Este articulo evalua la hipotesis de que el establecimiento de un esquema de libre comercio en America del Norte ha tenido algo que ver con recientes cambios en la politica de Mexico en el area de los derechos humanos, alineandose con la de Estados Unidos y Canada. El articulo concluye que la tesis de la “alineacion por derrame” no se sostiene, y ofrece explicaciones alternativas.
