Abstract
Le 18 mai 2018, à la bibliothèque Wren de Trinity College à Cambridge, le vernissage de l’exposition « Wifredo Lam : Livres d’artistes » a réservé une heureuse surprise aux spécialistes du poète présents. On a pu lire, sur deux feuilles manuscrites à en-tête de l’Assemblée Nationale, un texte qui commence par « Des pays intenses, où la force créatrice, jamais épuisée… ». De prime abord, on aurait dit un premier état de « Wifredo Lam et les Antilles », que les Cahiers d’art ont publié sous le titre « Wifredo Lam » dans leur numéro double (20-21) au dernier trimestre de 1946. La biobibliographie assurée par K. Véron et T. Hale en 2013 nous confirme cependant qu’il s’agit du manuscrit autographe de la contribution que Césaire avait offerte pour le catalogue de l’œuvre de Lam exposée au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caracas, au Venezuela, du 8 au 22 mai 1955.
