Abstract
“Burnout” or work-fatigue syndrome is the source of great controversy. It largely affects health professionals, and doctors in particular. Its importance as a source of depression, suicide, addictive behavior and professional dissatisfaction has been underestimated. The burnout rate of French doctors is estimated to be between 38% and 52%. Almost a quarter of doctors (23%) would not seek help if they were undergoing psychological distress, and more than half (54%) would not know to whom they should to turn. In fact, France is somewhat behind in the care management of this scourge, even if some professional caregivers propose that it be recognized as a work-related illness. This article aims to define the clinical picture of the disease, and to create a non-exhaustive list of means of prevention and monitoring.
