Este prologo consta de dos partes: una que analiza, como un caso ejemplar del modo en que se ha analizado el momento transitorio entre la dinastia de los Austrias y la de los Borbones. Ese caso se concentra en las percepciones de la marina espanola en el ultimo cuarto del siglo XVII y el primero del XVIII. La otra parte presenta los textos que componen el dossier, en su diversidad y su funcionalidad.
