Cet article vise à montrer, à partir de deux exemples, comment s’établissent les rapports aux savoirs scientifiques sous l’injonction de l’éducation au développement durable en France. D’une part, l’examen de contenus d’expositions circulant dans les écoles primaires et les établissements scolaires du secondaire (collège et lycée), produites en grande partie par des organismes extérieurs, et d’autre part celui de l’évolution curriculaire des licences professionnelles universitaires (2001-2010) amènent quelques hypothèses. En effet, expositions itinérantes et curricula formels montrent que la dominante développementaliste (durable) semble s’accompagner de savoirs scientifiques réduits, voire absents. En contrepartie, les procédures d’opérationnalisation du développement durable (management de la société civile, nouvelle gouvernance), marquées par une éthique conservationniste (gestion des ressources) ainsi que par une approche comportementaliste (appels aux responsabilités individuelles et collectives et bons gestes associés), occupent une grande place. Au-delà de ces constats, cet article propose d’ouvrir le débat sur le développement durable comme inducteur de nouvelles logiques sociétales, en approchant notamment la notion de curriculum caché.
