Key Messages On private land the Species at Risk Act in Canada relies on voluntary stewardship as the preferred approach to protecting species at risk. Private rural landowners in Prince Edward Island have some knowledge of species at risk and feel that they should be protected, but little knowledge of the federal Act. Study participants say they are willing to change their land management practices in order to protect species at risk, and feel that government should provide education about land management practices to protect species and their habitat.
