Cet article propose une réflexion essentiellement théorique sur la formation initiale, réflexion qui se base sur quatre concepts fondamentaux : développement professionnel, identité professionnelle, bien-être ; forces de caractère. Plus spécifiquement, prenant acte de la complexité de la profession enseignante, les auteurs soutiennent que la formation initiale des enseignants au Québec fait trop peu de place à une réflexion sur soi. Cette réflexion devrait, selon eux, prendre assise sur une recherche du sens en fonction d’une visée du bien-être. Les auteurs considèrent que les recherches en psychologie positive portant sur les forces de caractère peuvent fournir des pistes utiles pour repenser la formation initiale des enseignants.
