En utilisant des munitions à base de grenailles de plomb pour la chasse, la population inuite du Nunavik s'expose à une source de plomb potentiellement dommageable pour la santé. Afin d'étudier les déterminants comportementaux de l'exposition au plomb de chasse chez les Inuit, un inventaire des munitions aux points d'achat et des entrevues semi-dirigées avec des informateurs-clés ont été réalisés au printemps 2010. Les résultats de l'étude indiquent qu'il y a encore une demande importante pour les grenailles de plomb au Nunavik. Il semble que ce soit principalement en raison de leur faible coût et parce que leur utilisation fait partie des habitudes de la population inuite. Cette étude suggère qu'afin d'éliminer complètement cette source de contamination, il faudrait vérifier, à moyen ou long terme, la possibilité d'interdire l'utilisation de grenailles de plomb au moyen d'une réglementation. À court terme, il faudra motiver les chasseurs à changer leurs habitudes en tenant compte des défis d'ordre financier et technique qu'engendre la suppression de la grenaille de plomb au profit d'alternatives non toxiques.
