La propaganda de las instituciones migratorias canadienses se basa en la política del multiculturalismo para proyectar el estereotipo de Canadá como un país en el que diversas culturas coexisten sin conflicto, así como el de un actor internacional magnánimo. De este modo se busca atraer mano de obra calificada para fomentar la competitividad del país en un mercado globalizado sin comprometer la seguridad nacional. En el presente trabajo, se contrasta esta imagen estereotipada con el discurso que emerge de los testimonios de Helena Martín Franco, una artista visual colombiana establecida en la ciudad de Montreal, y su personaje Fritta Caro. Se parte de la hipótesis según la cual sus obras y testimonios ofrecen elementos de información incompatibles con los de la propaganda migratoria canadiense, por lo cual constituyen un acervo de disonancias que tiene un potencial para contribuir a desarmar los estereotipos que ésta difunde
