La arquitectura del paisaje en América presenta, a pesar de la vastedad del continente, ciertas similitudes en los comienzos de su evolución. Los proyectos y los escritos de Frederick Todd y Benito Carrasco, quienes desarrollaron una vasta obra que afianzó la profesión, exhiben cierto paralelismo en los estudios y prácticas que realizaron respectivamente en Canadá y en la Argentina. Jóvenes países estos, caracterizados por la amplitud geográfica, la diversidad y la riqueza paisajística, la importancia de las corrientes inmigratorias en su constitución, los procesos de colonización, así como por la necesidad de la efectiva ocupación del territorio y la conveniencia de la planificación de sus ciudades. Empeñados ambos en pos de su desarrollo, también en el campo del paisaje.
