\nMahasiswa baru yang berada pada masa transisi akan mengalami perubahan lingkungan yang akan menyebabkan mereka akan sulit berosialisasi apabila mengalami shyness. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara faktor kepribadian big five dengan shyness pada mahasiswa baru. Subjek penelitian dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 378 orang mahasiswa baru Universitas Negeri Makassar. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitan ini adalah cluster sampling. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tipe kepribadian extraversion memiliki hubungan dengan shyness (r= -0,396, p= 0,000), tipe kepribadian agreeableness memiliki hubungan dengan shyness (r=0,393, p= 0,000) tipe kepribadian conscienstiousness memiliki hubungan dengan shyness (r=0,160, p=0,002), tipe kepribadian neuroticsm tidak memiliki hubungan dengan shyness (r=0,96, p= 0,061), dan tipe kepribadian openness to experience memiliki hubungan dengan shyness (r=0,219, p=0,000). Penelitian ini dapat menjadi masukan bahwa shyness yang dialami mahasiswa dapat dilihat dari tipe kepribadian yang dimiliki.
