Au début des années 2000, le Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux a mandaté le Centre de Référence du Grand Montréal, responsable et gestionnaire de la ligne téléphonique Jeu : aide et référence (JAR), d'implanter un projet-pilote de télécounselling pour les joueurs. Ce service a été mis en place en 2006. L'objectif du présent projet est d'évaluer le projet-pilote de télécounselling de JAR à partir des informations transmises par JAR aux chercheurs. Pour ce faire, l'impact du traitement sur les habitudes de jeu, la façon dont le programme fut administré et la satisfaction des participants face à celui-ci ont été analysés à partir des 84 dossiers dénominalisés des individus ayant entamé le programme de télécounselling. Les résultats obtenus révèlent que le traitement aurait permis d'augmenter significativement le sentiment chez les joueurs que le problème de jeu est résolu ou sous contrôle, sans avoir d'impact sur la force des envies de jouer. De plus, le contenu du traitement s'avère de nature cognitive-comportementale à moins de 50 %. Il est offert de façon variable, comme en témoigne son faible score d'intégrité totale (10,8 % des participants ont reçu tous les éléments prévus). Par contre, la moyenne des items reçus par participant est élevée. Les données disponibles démontrent également un haut taux de satisfaction des joueurs à l'égard du programme, variant de 80,5 à 99,0 % pour les différentes variables mesurées. Des recommandations sont émises sur le contenu du traitement offert par JAR ainsi que sur la méthodologie à utiliser lors d'une prochaine évaluation de programme.
