Abstract
Tandis qu’il préside pour un an la Commission sur l’enseignement des arts au Québec, Rioux rédige ce texte qui paraît sous forme d’opuscule. Il s’agit en l’occurrence d’une vaste réflexion sur l’école, comme vecteur de formation et d’intégration à la société ou à la nation. La Révolution tranquille et, dans sa foulée, la laïcité ont contribué à remodeler la nation et le rôle de l’école dans son giron. En effet, le Québec s’est résolument orienté vers le développement économique et social avec l’ambition de « devenir grand ». Sous ce jour, se conçoit-il comme une culture ou comme une collectivité en devenir ? Quand la culture québécoise déborde les frontières, à quoi correspond-elle ? La nation et l’école se combinent l’une à l’autre et il faut en prendre acte. L’opuscule, sous forme pratiquement d’un manifeste, propose des pistes de réflexion sur le sujet.
