Abstract
Les soeurs Duplessis qui étaient religieuses à l’Hôtel-Dieu (l’hôpital de Québec) étaient en correspondance avec un apothicaire dieppois nommé Jacques-Tranquilain Féret. Elles lui demandaient d’expédier à Québec les drogues et médicaments dont leur apothicaire avait besoin. Parmi celles-ci se trouvait le quinquina qui venait de Callao au Pérou par bateau, passait le cap Horn, puis gagnaient le grand port espagnol, Cadix. Elles étaient ensuite embarquées pour Rouen, le port français pour les drogues américaines. Les denrées péruviennes étaient alors transportées par des petits bateaux de pèche à Dieppe où Féret les recevait. L’apothicaire expédiait ensuite le quinquina par des bateaux qui partaient de Rouen ou de La Rochelle à destination de Québec. Ces drogues péruviennes devaient donc traverser deux fois l’Océan avant d’arriver en Amérique du Nord.
