Abstract
Notre exposé cherche à démontrer que la promesse faite à Nathanaël en Jn 1,51, à l’aide du texte de Gn 38,12-19, annonce la glorification du Fils de l’homme au terme de son parcours terrestre décrit comme une descente et une remontée. Mais le moyen de cette glorification sera la crucifixion. D’où le recours à deux textes de l’A.T. pour démontrer, d’abord en 3,14-15, que la crucifixion de Jésus serait une élévation salvifique préfigurée par le serpent élevé par Moïse sur un étendard (Nb 21,4-9). Cependant, la crucifixion est aussi le terme ultime de la descente du Fils de l’homme. La valeur salvifique de la crucifixion est alors démontrée à l’aide de l’épisode de la manne, pain descendu du ciel (Ex 16,4.15.35 ; Ps 78,24). Mais le vrai pain de vie, c’est Jésus : à ceux qui lui resteront fidèles jusqu’à la croix, il transmettra la vie qu’il reçoit continuellement de son Père (Jn 6,48-58).
