Abstract
Cultivant ses racines poitevines et françaises, québécoises et canadiennes, la poésie de Robert Marteau (1925-2011) incarne l’idée d’une résistance catholique. Résistance à la désaffection pour les appels de la religion et ses apostrophes dérangeantes. Résistance à la désaffiliation à l’égard de toute écriture ou figure transcendante. Résistance à la négation des sources divines de la création artistique. Cette poésie affirme donc l’absolue nécessité du règne de Dieu, dont la présence relativise et limite les pouvoirs devenus exorbitants de l’humain. Face à l’extension de ces pouvoirs à tous les domaines de la création, Robert Marteau trouve en cette présence la force de sauvegarder les arcanes ancestraux d’où les arts et la littérature commencent et s’épanouissent, du cœur de la tradition à celui de la modernité.
