Abstract
Sexual dysfunction (SD) after prostate cancer (PC) treatment accounts for the single greatest deleterious impact on a patient’s physical, functional, emotional, and relational quality of life. Related distress is also reported by partners of patients. Few Cancer Centres in Canada offer comprehensive care for SD post-PC treatment. Significant competition for limited healthcare funding means traditional clinic-based treatment is an unlikely solution to this gap in care. In this context, online educational and support programming may offer an innovative model of care for SD treatment post-PC. The TrueNTH Sexual Health and Rehabilitation eClinic (SHAReClinic) was developed via a national collaboration of Canadian healthcare practitioners and patient/partner advocates. It is a national-wide, web-based, facilitated bio-psychosocial SD intervention for patients/couples who have undergone treatment for localized prostate cancer. Components of SHAReClinic include a personal online sexual health counsellor, tailored content, structured visits, a virtual library, and feedback mechanisms for both participants and their physicians.
