Coulomb dissociation of 11Be and 8B are studied theoretically with the aim of analyzing the influence of the projectile description on the calculations. Both projectiles are modeled as two‐body systems, and various potentials with different geometry are considered for both of them. As expected, their breakup reactions are found to be peripheral. The calculations depend on the initial bound state (through its asymptotic normalization coefficient) and also on the distorted waves that describe the continuum (mainly through the phase shifts). The relative importance of both aspects varies from one projectile to the other and depends on the physical constraints imposed.
