ET UNE BOUTEILLE DE RHUM!En Gaspésie, l'histoire du rhum est étroitement liée au commerce de la morue.Dès l'époque de la Nouvelle-France, des navires remplis de poisson séché ou salé se rendent aux Antilles pour y échanger divers produits issus de la culture de la canne à sucre. Jeannot BourdagesArchiviste et chargé de projet, Musée de la Gaspésie O riginaire de l'Océanie, la canne à sucre est introduite en Amérique par nul autre que l'explorateur Christophe Colomb.Principalement pour produire du sucre, la plante est cultivée dans plusieurs colonies de l'Amérique centrale et du Sud.Pour sa culture, les propriétaires de plantation recherchent une main-d'œuvre abondante et bon marché.Cela va donner naissance à un autre commerce, beaucoup moins reluisant, soit celui des esclaves en provenance de l'Afrique.
