Abstract
By taking children’s rights and global citizenship into the classroom, this paper reports on a participatory action research project which engaged Grade one students in Uganda and Canada in arts-based activities to learn about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child based on child rights workshops provided by Child Thrive. As children have the right to learn about their rights, children were given the opportunity to explore and express (through words, drawings, and games) what they believed to be their rights and responsibilities, and they also shared their ideas with each other through words and images that were exchanged between the classes. By doing so, the children emphasised the importance of involving children in discussions about their rights and their responsibilities and how they are perceived.
