Abstract
Cette étude de cas multiples vise à décrire le développement de l’orthographe lexicale en arabe chez de jeunes enfants arabophones du préscolaire scolarisés au Québec (N = 9). À quatre reprises, les enfants ont été individuellement invités à une épreuve d’orthographes approchées, et ce, à partir d’un entretien semi-dirigé enregistré par vidéo. L’analyse des productions écrites réalisées nous a permis d’observer trois préoccupations des scripteurs : visuographiques, phonologiques et orthographiques. Les enfants se sont approprié l’écrit en exprimant une capacité à produire conventionnellement les phonogrammes, à combiner les syllabes au sein d’un mot, à ne pas avoir recours à un traitement exclusif des voyelles ou des consonnes et à respecter le schéma de mise en page de façon conventionnelle. Toutefois, leurs écrits ont parfois témoigné de pseudolettres et de désordres inter et intrasyllabiques.
