Jeunes issus de l’immigration et choix d’orientation au postsecondaire à Montréal

Abstract
Basée sur le recueil de récits de vie (n=60), notre recherche qualitative interprétative tente de mieux comprendre a posteriori comment des jeunes issus de l’immigration ont vécu leur choix de programme au cégep. L’analyse typologique des récits de jeunes issus de l’immigration révèle que la famille joue un rôle déterminant lors de ces choix. De plus, comparativement aux jeunes originaires d’autres pays, les jeunes issus de l’Afrique noire, des Caraïbes, de l’Amérique Centrale et du Sud perçoivent davantage de contraintes (familiale, économique et scolaire) lorsque vient le temps de faire leur choix. Ces jeunes semblent également disposer de moins de ressources et d’informations sur l’ensemble des choix d’orientation possibles et sur les rouages du système. En conclusion, ces résultats permettent de suggérer des pistes d’intervention au personnel scolaire afin de favoriser l’orientation de ces jeunes au postsecondaire.
