Medicína starověké Mezopotámie je oblastí, jíž je věnována velká pozornost již od objevu „příruček“ pro osoby praktikující medicínu. Tyto lékařské texty ovšem obsahují spíše teoretické informace, zatímco dokladů o tom, jaká byla skutečná praxe, máme o poznání méně. Světlou výjimkou je novoasyrské období (zejména doba vlády krále Asarhaddona), ze kterého se dochovalo relativně velké množství textů, jež poskytují barvitější obraz jak konkrétních pacientů trpících různými chorobami, tak také metod léčby a osob, jež jí byly pověřeny. Tyto texty se však vztahují pouze k nejvyšším vrstvám asyrské společnosti, a tak je nelze v žádném případě chápat jako zdroj informací k medicínské praxi ve starověké Asýrii obecně.
