Abstract
Abstract This chapter describes the state of knowledge on the development of physical aggression from early childhood to adulthood. Using recent longitudinal studies from birth onwards, the authors describe developmental trajectories of physical aggression and indirect aggression, their association during development, and their association with other behavior problems such as hyperactivity, inattention, opposition, and conduct disorder. The chapter also discusses important issues concerning research on aggression, such as the definition of aggression, the functions of aggression (proactive aggression and reactive aggression), and sex differences.
