Abstract
Il subsiste fort peu de registres des sociétés politiques en Saône-et-Loire, alors que ce département connut un phénomène de sociabilité militante intense, quoique tardif. C’est pourquoi le registre de la Société républicaine de Paray-le-Monial est précieux. Particulièrement représentative de la vie politique du département, cette société naît au cœur de l’avènement de la République (2 février 1793) pour disparaître provisoirement pendant la réaction thermidorienne (17 avril 1795). Mais sa très grande originalité vient du fait qu’elle renaît avec la Seconde République, entre février et le 29 avril 1848. La société républicaine est implantée au cœur d’une petite ville de la Bourgogne du sud, à la fois religieuse et artisanale. La sociabilité urbaine reflète ces forts clivages sociaux et culturels en interne, mais doit aussi se comprendre dans la rivalité administrative et fonctionnelle avec la ville de Charolles.
