Abstract
North American journalism—from Greenland to Canada and the United States—continues to experience immense technological and ideological challenges in a digital news age. Increasingly, fragmenting media audiences and expanding economic threats from the Internet have placed strain on the continent's news media in ways that have both broadened and threatened journalistic authority. This entry begins by discussing current changes within media ecosystems and economies of North America. Next, it examines how journalists are responding to a diversity of audience interests in media and platforms. This entry then discusses digital advancements in production and delivery, particularly in a time of fake news, which is followed by areas of future industry and research approaches.
