Abstract
Des recherches récentes ont permis de localiser deux scieries à marbre du milieu du XIXe siècle près de Saint-Girons. En Ariège, ce sont actuellement les seules sur lesquelles on ait autant d’informations. Ces deux établissements distincts ont surtout transformé des marbres locaux, certains issus de leurs propres carrières nouvellement ouvertes. Leur implantation s’inscrit dans un contexte local de reprise d’exploitations par de grandes compagnies toulousaines, parallèlement à une extraction traditionnelle aux abords de Saint-Girons pour des besoins locaux.
