This entry explores media literacy education in Canada. It provides an overview of the origins of media literacy in Ontario, and the development of policy and curriculum across the country. The entry describes popular frameworks for teaching about the media, as well as the theory and approaches that underpinned and influenced their development. The entry also explores the work of key provincial and national organizations and partnerships that helped prioritize media literacy education in Canada and around the world. The conclusion identifies some of the challenges and future directions for media literacy in the country.
