Abstract
Este artigo posiciona a educação para as mídias ao mesmo tempo como campo e objeto de estudo privilegiado como aplicação de perspectivas críticas em comunicação e em educação. A este respeito, sintetiza e problematiza o campo teórico da educação para as mídias e identifica suas especificidades, seus propósitos e suas dificuldades. Ademais, apresenta de maneira crítica o conceito de “letramento midiático”, principal proposta teórica da educação para as mídias. Por fim, este artigo aponta as problemáticas associadas a esses elementos específicos, discute o que está em jogo atualmente na educação para as mídias e apresenta caminhos para a pesquisa ao longo dos próximos anos. Destarte, situa a educação para as mídias nos estudos em comunicação e demonstra suas contribuições para a disciplina.
