Dans le contexte de la transformation rapide du champ éditorial scientifique, qu’advient-il des revues de sciences sociales et plus précisément des revues québécoises d’histoire, de sociologie et de démographie publiant en français? Le texte se penche sur leur histoire, leur rapport à l’institution universitaire, au public spécialisé, au large public, à la discipline et au Québec. Si le choix de la démographie, de l’histoire et de la sociologie est en partie arbitraire, il permet de cerner une dynamique représentative des sciences sociales et humaines et de mettre en évidence certains enjeux et paradoxes relatifs à cette dynamique. Penser le Québec, penser au Québec sont deux choses différentes, et qui ensemble contribuent à construire un champ scientifique original, mais largement fragilisé.
