Abstract
Cet article examine l'immigration cossaise en Nouvelle-cosse dans une perspective environnementale. Big Island, qui est absente depuis longtemps des annales historiques, est un microcosme qui illustre la thse d'Alfred Crosby au sujet de la nouvelle Europe. La thorie fondatrice de l'historien de l'environnement n'a jamais t applique l'histoire de l'immigration cossaise, au Canada ou ailleurs, et son application Big Island rvle une forte enclave culturelle et gographique qui tmoigne de la puissance durable du lieu.
