Abstract
Diverses initiatives écologiques prolifèrent à l’encontre du contexte normatif des politiques environnementales mettant en lumière les paradoxes entre les pratiques et les valeurs de ces dernières. Ces alternatives critiques montrent que l’engagement écologique prend forme dans une autre esthétique que celle favorisée par les principes de durabilité. Une enquête photoethnographique a été réalisée en 2015 dans un atelier de vélo solidaire nord-américain. Les données ont révélé des propriétés esthétiques engageantes qui créent une continuité entre les êtres et les choses. L’esthétique a été longtemps associée à l’expérience artistique et l’antiréalisme, alors qu’en design, sa nature anthropologique et pragmatique contribue à établir des rapports écologiques. Ces connaissances contribuent à une compréhension des propriétés esthétiques, et par conséquent, permettent aux designers de prendre des décisions éclairées en les mobilisant comme un levier d’action puissant pour la transition écologique.
