Une controverse entoure le diagnostic de trouble de personnalité limite (TPL) chez les enfants. Certains auteurs mettent l’accent sur les risques de poser un diagnostic précoce alors que d’autres le considèrent essentiel pour orienter le traitement. Une position intermédiaire propose l’identification d’indices cliniques qui laisseraient présumer d’un risque de développer un TPL à l’âge adulte, tel que le recours aux mécanismes de défense immatures. Les enfants qui ont vécu des évènements traumatiques au sein de la relation avec leurs parents, comme ceux qui sont hébergés en protection de l’enfance, seraient plus à risque de développer un TPL à l’âge adulte. La présente étude vise à explorer les liens entre les traits de personnalité limite et les mécanismes de défense chez des enfants d’âge scolaire ayant vécu des évènements traumatiques. Les résultats démontrent que certains traits de personnalité limite sont liés aux mécanismes de défense immatures et inversement associés aux mécanismes de défense matures .
