Abstract
De nos jours, il est très commun d’utiliser le matériel d’une chanson enregistrée dans un nouveau contexte afin de la transformer. Cet article examine certaines des stratégies utilisées par Konflit dramatik (2008) dans la reprise de la chanson « God is an American » de Jean-Pierre Ferland (1970, révisée 2005) : les modifications aux paroles, les changements de tempo et le maniérisme vocal. La reprise change la version originale, qui critiquait l’impérialisme américain et le rôle de la religion dans la société, en une déclaration politique sur l’attaque américaine en Irak en 2003 et le rôle identitaire d'artistes franco-ontariens.
